Click for larger image- opens in new window For centuries the warriors of Japan (Samurai) armed themselves with an extra long wood bow. The reason they used this style of weapon is uncertain, but the asymmetrical design allows the wrist and bow hand to be in perfect alignment at full draw, making for an accurate and sweet shooting bow. Its great length also allowed for a long draw which greatly increased arrow speed and power. Though the days of the Samurai warriors have long sinced passed, this bow is still used for the practice of a martial art call Kyudo (Japanese archery), which is growing rapidly. The bow is made from Red Oak backed with linen and is 76 inches long. It
pulls between 30 and 35 pounds at 32 inches making it perfect for beginning
practitioners of Kyudo. Included with the bow are three 44 inch arrows
with a self nocks, and heat tempered tips. They are fletched with two natural
turkey feathers.
